HAPPY MAY DAY
HERE IS A BASKET FOR YOU..
One of the most popularly known May Day traditions is to hang a basket full of spring flowers and/or other small gifts on a neighbor's doorknob. The trick is you don't want the neighbor to see you! If you get caught, you are supposed to get a kiss.May baskets can be recycled from tin and glass household containers:
- Hammer holes in the sides of a tin can or antique cocoa tin. Run twine or ribbon through each hole, and knot inside.
- Wrap dark annealed iron wire below the lip of a jelly jar. Loop and twist a second wire around the first for a handle.
May Day occurs on May 1 and refers to the Haymarket affair or any of several public holidays. In many countries, May Day is synonymous with International Workers' Day, or Labour Day, which celebrates the social and economic achievements of the labour movement. As a day of celebration the holiday has ancient origins, and it can relate to many customs that have survived into modern times.
